Empowering Neurodivergent Youth:

Building Skills and Making Connections

We offer Programs for

Who is Making Connections Toowoomba?

The team at Making Connections Toowoomba delivers a range of group programs for neurodivergent children, teens, and young adults. We also provide consultations and occupational therapy to individuals and families.  We welcome all neurodivergent youth, diagnosis or not, and regardless of NDIS eligibility.

To ensure the highest quality support for our families we:

  • Use evidence-informed practices, programs, and approaches.
  • All services are delivered by qualified and experienced professionals.
  • We maintain small group sizes, often with two facilitators for additional support (capped at six participants for programs of support and eight participants for clubs).
  • All services are professionally planned, resourced, and fully facilitated to ensure meaningful and effective outcomes for participants.

We offer a range of programs to help young people develop skills, build confidence, and connect with like-minded peers.

  • Social Clubs – A great way for young people to build skills and friendships through shared interests.
  • Programs of Support – Designed to build capacity in various areas using evidence-based and evidence-informed strategies, including caregiver training.
  • PEERS Programs – Evidence-based social skills programs for children, teens, and young adults, where caregivers also attend to support learning and skill development.
  • Social Coaching Programs of Support – For those who have completed our social skills programs but would like to continue practising their skills and maintaining connections. These run fortnightly in a supportive peer environment.

We also deliver Mindfulness and Positive Psychology programs that give young people and their caregivers skills, practice, and support to help them cope with the inevitable ups and downs of everyday life.

Why Small Groups?
Most of our programs are intentionally designed for small-group settings because research overwhelmingly supports this as the most natural way to build social connections and practice essential social skills. This approach is especially beneficial for those wanting to learn how to make and maintain friendships in real-world settings.

We identify as a neuroaffirming practice. This means our approach respects, values, and supports the unique neurological differences of each participant, particularly young people who identify as neurodivergent, such as those with autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental variations. We emphasise the acceptance of neurodiversity as a natural and valuable aspect of human diversity and don’t try to "fix" or "cure" our participants, rather, as Our Mission states:

We aim to help neurodivergent youth make connections with like-minded peers and build skills so they can interact within their world with greater comfort, connectedness, and confidence... and have a whole lot of fun along the way!

Our Values

We believe our clients and families deserve nothing but the best. We value:

  • Passion to make a positive difference to the lives of neurodivergent youth and their caregivers.
  • Respect for each participant’s uniqueness.
  • Commitment to helping our participants feels safe to be who they are.
  • Excellence in all that we do.
  • Warmth by genuinely caring about and enjoying the young people in our care.
  • Community by bringing neurodivergent youth and their caregivers together to find their tribe and make lasting connections.

No Diagnosis? No NDIS? No Problem.

We work with young people experiencing social difficulties, mainly those with autism, ADHD and social anxiety. However, we understand that everyone has their own unique profile, therefore we welcome neurodiversity and your young person does not need a diagnosis to access our programs.

Support for Parents and Caregivers

Making Connections Toowoomba acknowledges that with each participant there is at least one key caregiver; often feeling overwhelmed or isolated. For this reason, we offer social groups for young people, and deliver evidence-based Social Skills Programs which embed parent coaching opportunities. In addition, we provide parent-carer workshops and webinars on a range of topics. We endeavour to empower caregivers with strategies and information they can use across real-life contexts and beyond the direct support of groups and intervention.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help neurodivergent children, teens and young adults make connections with like-minded peers and build skills so they can interact within their world with greater comfort, connectedness, and confidence... and to have a whole lot of fun along the way!
